How do you stay organised?
Submitted by devillibrarian.
Lots of different ways. I'm quite an organised person in general:
- My phone synchronises my calendar and contacts between my Home PC and Work PC, so I always have it up-to-date across all three (phone and two PCs) and thus never miss a meeting/appointment.
- I use a spiral-bound A4 notebook to keep track of To-Do lists and outstanding actions from meetings, each item gets crossed through when completed.
- At home I plan my meals a week ahead and put together a shopping list (yes, another list!) which then goes to the supermarket with me.
- When at work, and writing code, it gets sprinkled with "//TODO:" comments which Visual Studio then aggregates for me as a Task List within itself. Sadly, quite a few of them start off as "//TODO:Reimplement this class as its a BDH". (BDH = Big Dirty Hack)
Organised. To the max ;)
How do you keep calm?
Submitted by L33tchica.
Now, that varies - I've got a lot better at controlling my temper over the years but a classic sign that I'm loosing my rag is if I capitulate. If I start talking very calmly and quietly and agreeing with what you're saying - run!
One really good way of keeping calm is going for a walk, it might just be for 10 minutes, but getting away from my desk and taking the time out works wonders.
What do you do for fun when you're broke?
Submitted by Kim.
I cook, I watch DVDs, I have friends round to visit - sometimes I combine all three into one evening and get the aforementioned friends to bring a bottle of Vodka with them. Then it's fun ;)
What's the best book you read this year?
Whilst it's a shocking condemnation of some parts of the American legal system (surely having ANYONE who's responsible tor trying or pressing cases should NOT be an elected official as this can, and will, lead to a "convictions for votes" situation), there have been similar miscarriages of justice in the UK and almost certainly every other country in the world.
Read it. Now.
What's your favorite thing to drink when it's cold outside?
Coffee made with freshly ground beans, yum. Failing that, a nice full-bodied New Zealand red. They really do make some fantastic wines over there! Chilean comes a very, very close second.
Today is Vox's first anniversary since the official launch. What's the best experience you've had on Vox in the past year?
Catching up with people I'd mostly lost touch with. Wenders, Dale, Joanie, Mark (when he deigns to post!) y'all have helped brighten my day on numerous occasions. Although I'd never realised before quite what a potty mouth Wendy was! ;)
Do you have a regular workout routine? What's your favorite form of exercise?
Does masturbation count? No, oh, ok.
Well, I guess I walk:
- from home to the station
- from the station to work
- from work to the station
- from the station to home
What sources do you count on for national news coverage? How about international and local news?
news.bbc.co.uk - why settle for anything less than hyperlinked up-to-the-minute goodness?
What do you think about Ryan Seacrest being chosen to host tonight's Primetime Emmy Awards?
Absolutely nothing. This is one of the most US-centric and thus irrelevant QotD's I've seen. And they annoy me.
What's the current hottest restaurant in your city? Have you tried it out yet?
It's not a restaurant and it's not in a city. That's just a few minor details though!
The Wheatsheaf in Grayswood is quite a nice eatery which I visited a few weeks ago. The food was fantastic, well priced for the quality and quantity and the service good. My only niggle would've been that the service was a bit over-eager at times, I don't object to the standard "Is everything ok with your meal?" patter, but it does grate when overused. The 12oz Rib eye Steak is rather tasty.
